The first four days of Hurricane Irene Mark shot for the Star Ledger, living out of his car, following the storm. The fifth day he shot for Reuters. There's nothing like waking up the sixth day, September 1, 2011, to find out the first image moved by Reuters ran on the front pages of the Times, the Post and Journal. The image, and fact it ran on all three front pages, was discussed in media blogs and even NY morning shows. That morning Reuters senior photographer and photo editor Brendan McDermid called to say, Good job, what are you going to do for us today?

Presented to mark the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Rising Waters draws on work submitted by over a thousand photographers, who responded to an open call for images in the storm's wake. The juried exhibition features striking before-and-after images of the hurricane's impact on the New York region.
